Of all the courses I teach, this one is probably my favorite.
In this year long creative cohort steeping in the myths and magic of one plant each month, we will welcome ourselves into the new year with the inspiration of Venus’s birth and her greeting on the shore with a cloak of Rosemary.
We will journey through months with Rosemary, Anemone, Peony, Rose, Poppy, Yarrow, and more, letting the plants be our anchors, teachers, and inspiration as we move through the year with our grief and one another.
In our year together, we get to find ways to be with our grief through simply by turning our attention to the plant realm as we welcome ourselves however our grief is present, and sharing in that practice together.
It’s like an extended, year long plant walk.
While I love sharing the myths and folklore I know, I also love the way new understandings, stories, and meaning emerge from each cohort.
For example, I can never not see Yarrow or Rosemary as beloved butch grandmothers or Peony as a stunning drag queen of the flower realms - thanks to Nastya and other participants imagining and sharing that lore with us. Being in relationship with plants together reminds us that community is the context for folklore and the reimagining of old stories and the imagining of new, that meet us where we are.
For those seeking whimsy as well as grief support, joy and softness mixed with their creative practice, a playful irreverence mixed with deep reverence and curiosity for myth and the plant world... this is for you.

WELCOME TO FLOWER CHURCH (?)
In one of our last meetings of Tears of the Gods this past year, we jokingly called this course FLOWER CHURCH. Flower Coven might be more accurate…. I’m not someone who has ever been a part of a church, but we DO approach the flowers themselves as a holy text available to all, as sacred collaborators and inspirers to whom life is indebted…
So I’m tagging this on as an unofficial title/middle name for our course…
If you want to spend next year in a cohort of creative plant-loving, grief-welcoming humans, focused on exploring our relationships with a different flower each month, delighting in their beauty and magic, and pouring out praise, art, stories, poems, and other offerings to them…. you might want to join our “church.” 🌱
I hope to see you there!
With fierce care,
Mara June
